Becoming acquainted with a person uncovers unknown aspects of ourselves.
Youthful souls inspired with every question answered, driven by a desire to know more.
Stoking the flames of the heart with every patch of common ground discovered,
Or gently steering around each difference. Recognizing. Building respect for one another.
Too many core differences and we realize we are building different houses.
Too many course corrections leading to a parting better off discovered sooner rather than later.
And we part as friends, knowing that, in this case, it is better to do so from the start.
But if common ground abounds, then we begin to find footholds in shared experiences,
No matter how brief, intense within the proximity of moments.
Investment of time from the singularity of a meeting seeds long term success.
A budding universe given a chance to expand, to form the texture of shared spaces and thoughts,
Where two people might exist as one.
The worlds form and we orbit, dancing in the gravity of the other,
Healthy minds and bodies share a knowing,
To rush the tides is to go against the nature of our worlds.
Better to ebb and flow and in doing so we catch glimpses of the other’s soul,
Growing understanding of how the seasons of personality crash upon the shores of others,
And to one day answer: Do our sandy beaches benefit from currents shared?
Is our connection an ocean current inevitable?
Can we withstand the shifting sands of time?
